Professor Chris Lavy

This is a recording of our virtual speaker event on Global Surgery with Professor Lavy. Professor Lavy has set up two orthopaedic treatment centres in Malawi and an international treatment programme for clubfoot that spans over 15 countries. He focuses on medical training and scaling surgery for district and rural populations in Africa. This work has earned him an OBE, and he is a commissioner for The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery.

Dr Alastair Yeoh

This is a recording of a virtual speaker event on Humanitarian Medicine and Global Health with Dr Alastair Yeoh, a UK-based doctor passionate about improving healthcare for people in low-income countries. During his work with Medicins Sans Frontieres in Zambia and Ethiopia, he saw first-hand the tragic effects of poverty and disease but also the huge impact that well-planned interventions can have on people’s lives. He is pursuing a career in infectious diseases and global health and is also passionate about effective giving, having taken the GWWC pledge in 2019 and co-founded GiveHealth.

Professor Mihaela Van Der Schaar

Professor Mihaela Van Der Schaar is the John Humphrey Plummer Professor of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Medicine and was recognised in 2019 as the most-cited female AI researcher in the UK. Her lab has developed revolutionary tools that are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in medicine, from predicting the use of ventilators and ICU beds in the pandemic to recommending therapies for breast cancer better than current international best practice.
