High Impact Medicine is hiring a Program Manager
High Impact Medicine (Hi-Med) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to guide a global community of doctors and medical students to do more good through high impact careers and giving. We believe that medical professionals are highly skilled and motivated but have huge untapped potential to save more lives and reduce future threats to health. A key barrier giving rise to this “impact gap” is the lack of exposure to ideas, networks, and opportunities that would enable more impactful career and giving decisions.
As Program Manager, you will take substantial ownership of our growing flagship Career Guidance program and help shape how it develops. You will work directly with doctors and medical students from around the world, gain a deep understanding of career pathways in global health, biosecurity, and effective altruism, whilst also contributing to decisions about Hi-Med’s future programs and strategy. Working closely with the Executive Director and our close-knit team, you will have considerable scope to influence the development and impact of our programs to help grow our positive impact on the world’s most pressing health-related problems.
About High Impact Medicine
The Hi-Med team is focused on three things:
Career and effective giving guidance for medical students and doctors who want to help address the world’s most pressing problems but are unsure of their best path forward. This is delivered through an online Career Planning Course, 1:1 advisory calls, and maintenance of a global community of like-minded medics seeking impact.
A developing Information Hub to support career decision-making, focused on global health, pandemic preparedness and biosecurity. The Hub will help link our participants to the people, organizations and opportunities they need to progress along their pathways to impact.
Developing new programs and adapting existing programs to meet the needs of specific segments of our audience.
About the position
The Program Manager will report to and work closely with the Executive Director. The key responsibilities of the position are as follows:
(60%) Deliver and develop the Hi-Med Career Planning Course:
Program delivery and operations
Outreach to identify participants.
Coordination and support of participants, facilitators and speakers, including applications, communications, documentation, and problem-solving.
Career advising
Optional role as facilitator of small groups in the Career Planning Course and/or delivering 1:1 advisory calls with participants (if medically qualified and with suitable previous experience)
Program development and improvement
Quality improvement, development and testing of new approaches and resources that improve the career guidance we provide to participants.
Partnerships and outreach
Developing relationships with new partner organizations and implementing new ways to reach our target participant audience.
(15%) Maintain the Hi-Med Information Hub:
Curate and update the online Information Hub with resources on career pathways, organizations, and opportunities.
Monitor usage and gather feedback to improve accessibility and relevance.
(15%) Maintain the Hi-Med Participant Management System and community webinars:
Update participant information records and follow-up status.
Contribute to organizing Hi-Med community webinars, including speaker selection and outreach.
(10%) Contribute to organizational strategic planning:
Contribute your ideas and insights to decisions about program strategy, priorities and growth.
Qualifications and Skills
You will be well suited to this position if you have the following:
A track record showing a strong interest in global health, public health or biosecurity.
Previous training in medicine is preferred, or otherwise training in public health, global health, or related fields.
Experience in the effective altruism community and/or a strong knowledge of and interest in concepts of effective altruism.
Experience managing educational, fellowship, career guidance, community or similar programs.
Strong judgement and analytical skills, including the ability to assess evidence, identify promising opportunities and communicate uncertainty clearly.
Several years of relevant professional experience is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect positively with people in an online environment.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with good organizational and time-management skills.
Comfort learning and using digital tools, including Google Workspace, Slack, website platforms (e.g. Squarespace) and AI tools (e.g. Claude).
An ability to work in a language other than English is an asset, especially languages commonly spoken in target countries for expansion of our programs (e.g. countries in West Africa, South America and Asia).

Working Conditions
Hours: Full time or major part time (i.e. 0.6-1.0 FTE).
Duration: The initial appointment will include a three-month mutual review period to establish fit for the job. The position will be a one-year, renewable contract. Hi-Med has secured funding for its core running costs through to August 2028 .
Location: Remote (global). Preference for candidates based within six hours of Eastern Time.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required to Effective Altruism or similar conferences (e.g. EAG and EAGx conferences), typically 0-2 trips per year, each 2-4 days.
Start date: As soon as possible.
Compensation: USD 15,000–50,000 per year at 1.0 FTE, depending on prior experience and geographical location.
Vacation: 4 weeks per year.
